In recent conversations with a few of my clients the topic has turned to gratitude.
In particular understanding what exactly they are being grateful for and how to express a deeper sense of gratitude and awareness in the everyday.
As I say in the Gratitude section of the new Junk Journal “it is a matter of heightening your awareness to your surroundings and experiences”.
What exactly does that mean? Well I think it is being mindful and appreciative of the small things that you experience everyday. An example of some everyday experiences you can express gratitude for include:
- A hug or loving smile from your children, partner or friend
- Fresh food that nourishes your body
- Harmonious interactions with others
- Fresh air and sunshine
- Safe arrival at various destinations
- The bright coloured petals of a flower
- A smile from a stranger
- The smell of freshly brewed coffee
- Getting a parking space, or a seat on the train
- A phone call or text message from a friend
Then you can delve a little deeper. Think about what you have, how it makes your feel, why it is important to you.
For example, I often express gratitude about my health and the wonderful people in my life.
“I am grateful for my strong, healthy body. For all of my muscles and organs and blood cells that support me when I am exercising and building and maintaining my level of fitness and flexibility.”
“I am so grateful for the many wonderful, supportive friends in my life. It makes me so happy to know that I have so many good friends. People that I know I can call anytime, friends to laugh with, have adventures with, just be with.”
So think about the little things that you experience every day and look at those experiences through the eyes of gratitude and appreciation.
